The world, in which we currently reside, is filled with uncertainty and chaos. I'm specifically talking about the U.S. and what has been happening in our country. While I was meditating on God's Word and thinking about the situation in our country I had a thought drop into my heart. I've seen so many posts on Facebook and the news online and am troubled by the many who are wrapped up in the politics of the situation.
As the people of God I think we need to be reminded of our position in Christ. In the words of Jesus, he says, "I have given them Your word [the message You gave Me]; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world and do not belong to the world, just as I am not of the world and do not belong to it. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that You keep them and protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth [set them apart for Your purposes, make them holy]; Your word is truth." (John 17:14-17 AMP) John records that we are in the world, but not of the world. Paul tells us that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). This lets us know that we are in the world and may live and move in the world just as our neighbors do, but we are more...in that we are citizens of another place, heaven. What then should be our purpose in this life?
Paul tells the Corinthians in his second epistle to them, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us." (2 Corinthians 5:17-20 ESV)
You see, it is NOT our job as Christians to make the world see the light. It is our job as Christians to BE the light that the world sees. We are the light so let us shine like the stars in the sky (Philippians 2:15 NIV) in a warped and crooked generation. The world needs the Believer to be a light. "let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 ESV) It isn't in what we say but how we love and do good that the world will see the light.
Isaiah talks about the glory of the Lord on His people and how the nations will be drawn to them (Isaiah 60:1-3). In these dark times the world doesn't need the Church to take a political side, as much as, they need to see the light of the Gospel of Grace as we help to bring them into a relationship with Jesus.
So...Let Your Light Shine!
